Sports Events 2024-25
This year we have signed up to lots of different sporting events which are both competitive and non-competitive. We hope as many children as possible will get the chance to represent our school this year and we look forward to sharing their success.
Tuesday 17th September - Year 5 and Year 6 Girls' Football Heats
Today the girls played their first matches as a team. The event was held at St Laurence and the girls played three different schools: West Heath, Northfield Manor and St Joseph's. They played with passion and persistence and scored a well earned goal at the end! Well done!
Thursday 19th September - Y5/6 Basketball Competition
The first basketball tournament of the year played at West Heath. The team played well and scored some great baskets. Well done to all the children who took part! There were some great baskets scored!
Thursday 26th September - Y3/4 Basketball Festival
Today our Year 3 and Year 4 children went to West Heath to play in a friendly basketball festival against other local schools. The children played well together and demonstrated some great team work skills. It was great to see some superb baskets scored and all the children enjoy themselves. Well done to all those who tool part!
Thursday 3rd October - Y5/6 3 v 3 Basketball Competition
Today we went over to West Heath Primary School and our Y5/6 children took part in a new event based on Olympic style basketball. The children played in 3 v 3 matches against other local schools. We had a boys team and a girls team. Both teams learned lots and had great fun playing a new style of basketball.
Monday 7th October - Panathlon Ten Pin Bowling
A group of children went over to Acocks Green Bowling to take part in the Tenpin Bowling, Panathlon event. The team has great fun bowling and each came away with a certificate.
Monday 14th October - Year 6 Knock Out Football Match
Our Year 6 team played Hawkesley Primary Academy today in a knock out match. Both teams played really well and the game was extremely close. Well done to all the children who took part!
Tuesday 15th October - Y6 Boys Football
Today the Year 6 football team took part in a tournament at St Laurence Church Junior School which involved playing a number of matches against other local schools. They team played very well and created some good chances as well as making some great saves. Well done to all the players who took part!
Thursday 17th October - Y3/4 Tag Rugby
A great afternoon of tag-rugby was played today at Kings Norton Rhinos Rugby Club. The children represented the school in a boys' festival and a girls' festival and both our teams played well, enjoying the event as they each got to play many games against other local schools.
Monday 21st October - Girls' Football Knock Out Match
Our Year 5 and Year 6 girls' football team played in a knock out match. They played brilliantly as a team and the game was really close. They showed great resilience, perseverance and team work as they played. Well done to all those who took part!
Thursday 24th October - Y5/6 Tag-Rugby
Today our Year 5 and Year 6 children took part in a Tag-Rugby competition where they played against several local schools at Kings Norton Rhinos Rugby Club. Lots of tag-rugby was was played and our team played well together, making improvements as each game was played. Well done to all those who took part!
Tuesday 5th November - Cross Country
A great event held over at Kings Norton Rhinos Rugby Club where our pupils got the chance to take part in a cross country race against other schools. We managed to place in the top 3 in two of the events. Well done to all the children who took part - you demonstrated strong resilience and perseverance skills to complete the race!
Thursday 28th November - Y3/4 Gymnastics Festival
Our Year 3 and Year 4 children went to West Heath to take part in a gymnastics festival. They worked their way through bronze, silver and gold levels on the floor, beam and vaults as well as practised their core strength through various fun activities.
Thursday 5th December - Y5/6 Gymnastics Festival
Our Year 5 and Year 6 children went to West Heath to take part in a gymnastics festival. They were set tasks to complete on a beam before moving on to the next stage so they could challenge themselves. They also practised their vaulting skills and worked through various bronze, silver and gold challenges developing their core strength skills.
Thursday 16th January - Girls' Table Tennis Tournament
Today the Year 5 and Year 6 girls' table tennis team went over to West Heath Primary School to take part in a table tennis tournament. The girls each played a round robin of games playing children from 4 different school. All of the girls who took part had a great time and there were some great shots played! Well done!
Thursday 26th January - Year 5 ad Year 6 Boys' Table Tennis Tournament
This week the Year 5 and 6 boys went over to West Heath to take part in a table tennis competition. Each child competed in their own event against other local schools. Well done to all who took part - there was some brilliant table tennis being played by all!
Monday 27th January - Year 6 Netball match
Today our netball team played against Edgbaston High School for Girls. The girls showed great team work and persevered through the game which ended in a draw. Well done to both teams and all who took part!
Thursday 30th January - Year 5 and 6 KAB Festival
Our Year 5 and 6 children attended KAB festival at West Heath Primary School. KAB stands for curling, archery and boccia. They all had a great time learning new skills and playing against children from different schools.
Monday 3rd February - Year 6 Netball Match
Today our netball team played a match as part of the netball league.The team worked together and played brilliantly throughout the game. Well done to both teams and all who took part!
Tuesday 4th February - Year 6 Netball Match
Our netball team played their second match of the week as part of the netball league. The girls persevered through the weather and played a great game. Well done to everyone who took part!
Thursday 6th February - Year 3 and 4 KAB Festival
Our Year 3 and 4 children took part in curling, archery and boccia as part of a KAB festival. They all had a great time learning new skills and playing against children from different schools.
St Laurence Church Junior School Sports Events 2023-24
The pupils at St Laurence Church Junior School have already started their sporting event this year with a tag-rugby festival and many more events lined up for this half term - including a swimming gala!
We hope to enter many competitive and non-competitive competitions in a range of sports to offer a rich choice and experience to our pupils in order to inspire them to lead active healthy lives. Here are the events lined up so far.

Tuesday 26th September - Y3/4 Basketball Festival
Our basketball team had a great time playing as a team and playing against seven different schools.
Saturday 30th September - Y5/6 Swimming Gala
Our Year 5 and Year 6 team represented us extremely well achieving second place in the swimming gala held at Abbey Stadium! All children in the team received a medal and demonstrated a fantastic sports attitude towards each other and the competing schools.
Tuesday 3rd October - Y5/6 Basketball Competition
Amazing team effort in the basketball competition. Well done and well played!
Tuesday 10th October - Mixed Tenpin Bowling Competition
A super fun morning spent at Acocks Green Bowling representing our school and competing against other schools. Well done to all those who took part!
Tuesday 10th October - Y5/6 Tag-rugby League Games
Over two weeks our tag-rugby team went to play competitively in tag-rugby league games. Although we did not win over all, our team showed determination and great team work whilst improving upon their skills after each game! Well done to all who took part across both evenings!

Wednesday 22nd November - Year 6 Girls' Netball
Our team played well against Cotteridge. A tough first game of the season but a great team effort was shown by all the girls!
Wednesday 22nd November - Year 5 and Year 6 KAB Fest
Here our Year 5 and 6 children took part in curling, archery and boccia. They all had a great time and enjoyed trying some new sports!
Thursday 23rd November - Year 5 and Year 6 Girls' Netball
The girls played extremely well today against the Meadows. They played as a team and won as a team. Well done to all who took part.
Monday 27th November - KS2 Panathlon
Today children travelled on the train to The University of Birmingham to take part in the Panathlon. This is an event run where children get to take part and try a range of games and activities. Fun was had by everyone and everyone got to try something new!

Our Dance team danced with enthusiasm as they represented the school in the KS2 Dance Competition performing a dance they had practised in their weekly dance lessons help every Tuesday at school. Well done team!
Monday 26th February - Year 6 Netball against Edgbaston High School for Girls
The girls played really well as a team and scored some great goals. Well done girls - a great day for netball.
Thursday 29th February - Year 6 Netball against St Marys
Another super event where great netball was played.
Friday 1st March - Year 5 and Year 6 Indoor Athletics
A great event full of many events such as relay racing, obstacle races as well as throwing and jumping events. Our Year 5 and Year 6 children did us proud and represented St Laurence well! Well done to all those who took part!
Monday 4th March - Year 5 and Year 6 Table Tennis
The team took part in a table tennis tournament against Servern Primary school. Some fantastic rallies were seen in both singles and doubles. Well done!
Thursday 7th March - Year 6 Netball match
Monday 11th March - Year 6 Netball match against Harbourne
A fantastic match where the girls supported each other as well as the opposition. A fair and well sported match. Well done to all the girls invloved!
Monday 18th March - Year 3 and Year 4 Girls Football
Wow! A great performance by our Year 3 and Year 4 girls' football team today who progressed through to finals night which will be held after Easter!

Our Year 4 Boys took part in a 5-a-side football tournamnet at West Heath Primary School. They all played well and enjoyed taking part!
Tuesday 16th April Year 3 and Year 4 Girls' Football Final (came 3rd)
Our Year 3 and Year 4 Girls' football team took part in the final round of their tournament. They won 3rd place and received medals and a trophy. Well done team!
Thursday 18th April Year 3 and Year 4 Tag-rugby Festival
We had a great day with our Year 3 and Year 4 who took part in a tag-rugby festival. Some of these children were new to the sport this year. The children played really well and had a fantastic day!
Thursday 25th April Year 3 and Year 4 Dodgeball
Our Year 3 and Year 4 children went to play against local schools in a dodgeball event. They had a great time ad all came away smiling!
Monday 29th April Year 6 Netball at Bournville
Today the girls played a league game against Bournville. Another great event with some super shots. Well done team!
Monday 29th April Year 5 and Year 6 Girls Football at St Laurence
A great afternoon of football. The girls battled hard and learnt from each match played. They worked hard as a team and they should be really proud of themselves!
Thursday 9th May Superhero Festival
These children took part in a variety of sports activities including dance, netball, table tennis, football and basketball. We all had a great time!
Monday 20th May Year 6 Boys' Football at St Laurence
Our Year 6 team took part in the Mike Smith Trophy league. They played some great games and our goalie made some super saves. Well done!
Friday 7th June Abbey Stadium Athletics Event
We took a team from Year 3,4,5 and 6 to Abbey Stadium to take part in a range of athletics events including individual and team events. All the children competed well and we came away with some individual and team medals!
Monday 10th June Year 3 and Year 4 Olympics multi-sports event
Our Year 3 and Year 4 children took part in an Olympic event at West Heath Primary school in preparation for the upcoming Paris Olympics. They had a go at a variety of events that will take place in Paris this summer including tennis, shotput, golf, football, archery, javelin and athletics.

Tuesday 18th June and Tuesday 25th June Year 6 Girls Netball Tournament
Our Girls netball team took part in a two-legged netball tournament. They all played well as a team and came 3rd in the over all event. Well done girls!
Thursday 27th June Year 6 Triathlon Event
Our Year 6 children went over to Handsworth Leisure Centre to take part in the triathlon run by the Brownlee Foundation. They swam, biked (or scooted) and ran to complete the course. What a fantastic achievement - Well done Year 6!

A knock out match today for our girls. They did their best and battled hard. Well done to the girls' football team!
Tuesday 2nd July WHOLE SCHOOL SPORTS DAY
We had a great day where the whole school took part in our annual sports day. Durham House came out on top this year and we even had a parent and teacher race!

This academic year the pupils at St Laurence Church Junior School have already been busy taking part in a variety of sports events and fixtures. We are in several knock out tournaments including the H.M.S Birmingham Shield Competition which is held across schools in Birmingham. We have entered a variety of events both non-competitive and competitive to give our pupils the rich and diverse experiences they need in order to inspire them to lead active healthy lifestyles.
