Singing Playgrounds

Year 4 learning a new singing game

On Thursday 19th May, we welcomed the Singing Playgrounds Team into school for a wonderful day of music making! The day began with a lively assembly which got us all up, moving and singing our hearts out. We were delighted to be joined by the Year 2 pupils and their teachers for this. The children even learned a song in Polish and enjoyed seeing their teachers' best dance moves! Throughout the morning, every class participated in a workshop with Ex Cathedra vocal tutors, during which they learned some playground singing games to try at breaktimes with their friends. Some classes also made up new games, including elements of their own family traditions and home languages. In the afternoon, we were joined by visiting staff and pupils from four other local schools. We shared with them our learning from the morning sessions and also worked on some more playground games to share. Each year group now has Singing Playgrounds Song Leaders, who will lead inclusive singing play at breaktimes. The children (and staff!) had a brilliant day and are excited to further develop this new musical initiative at St Laurence.
